Lotus is an important symbol of Buddhism and the national flower of India, the birthplace of Buddhism.

Growing up in murky waters such as muddy water and swamps, and blooming beautifully is considered to be in line with the teachings of Buddhism. 

It contains the teaching that people's earthly desires and sufferings should be likened to mud, and no matter how difficult things may be, let's live without making our hearts dirty.
