Letter for Nobusan

Hi Nobu, thanks again for the amazing tour yesterday. You are amazing. I lost the map you made for me. Can you remind me of the name of the area with all of the art – I believe you said it was within walking distance of the hotel?

Thank you very much for having used me yesterday.

I am happy to hear you have enjoyed my guiding.

The area is Furumonzen-street and Shinmonzen-street.

It is located in the north side of Gion, near Yasaka shrine.

You will walk for around 30 minutes. I hope this information will be helpful for you.

Best Regards,

Nobuaki NagataYork - perhaps dinner!

Letter for Nobusan

Nagata-san,

Thank you so much much for a tremendous two days in Kyoto. Your knowledge, professionalism, sense of humour, and ability to sense what is of most interest to your clients is amazing and made the trip exceptional.

I look forward to scheduling my next trip and will definitely bring my husband along!

I have also taken the liberty of sharing your details with my Tokyo-based colleagues.

With kind regards,

Letter for Nobusan

Dear Nagata-san,

I wish you a happy, healthy and successful New Year!

Unfortunately, Covid Pandemy has had a big influence on our lives also in this last year of 2021. We did not manage to make big trips outside Germany, mostly in our southern regions where my brothers and me we have a little house inherited from our parents.

I enclose two pictures of the winter mood there, I have been there in the last days and I beg your pardon for my belated New Year wishes, as I have been in a valley in the mountains where there is no constant Internet connection.

My family at least is ok, all healthy and vaccinated, and we hope to reach also soon a time when all these Corona regulations will be obsolete.

I hope despite all problems you get along and stay healthy. My best regards also to your wife.

Best regards

I wish you and your family a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year!

Thank you very much for your thoughtful New Year greeting mail and two pictures.

I hope you and your family stay safe and healthy.

Unfortunately, the tally of infections has still increased a lot.

We can’t also travel outside Japan.

I hope Omicron Covid will not give us serious impact.

I look forward to meeting you again in the near future.

Please give my best regards to your family.

Dear Nobu san,

How are you?  And how is your wife?  I hope you are both keeping safe and well.  I am writing to say hello.

I thought of you especially now that the Tokyo Olympics is just around the corner.  With the pandemic, I expect that tourism is still very low in Japan.  So I am wondering how you are doing.

I can hardly believe that we have been in this very cautious situation for more than a year now.  Here in Sydney, it is winter but there are some nice sunshiny days.  However, we are now on a two-week lockdown, expected to end by midnight on July 9th.  However, there is speculation that the lockdown will be extended because the Delta variant of the virus is very contagious and transmissible in the community.

Have you been able to get a vaccination already?  My husband and I had our first jab of the Astra Zeneca vaccine at the end of April.  Our second dose is scheduled for the end of this month.  For this particular vaccine, there is a gap of 12 weeks between the first and the second doses

That's all for now, Nobu san.  Please do send me an email when you have the time.  I just want to let you know that I am thinking of you and all my dear friends in Japan.

Best regards,

I hope you and your family stay safe and healthy.

Thank you very much for your kind message.

We are very safe and well.

Some of us are enthusiastic about the Tokyo Olympics but others are worrying about Pandemic.

As for me, I think we need to postpone it one more year.

I am very sorry to hear that you are now on two-week lockdown and will extend a couple of weeks more.

Fortunately, I have been already vaccinated twice!

I heard that we need to take second vaccine within 3 weeks after we took first vaccine.

Is that all right with you?

I really appreciate your thoughtful concern about me and other friends in Japan.

I think we are doing well and most of us wear masks.

I hope we will be able to meet again soon.

Best Regards,

Nobuaki Nagata

Dear Nagata-san,

Hope you are keeping safe and well.

It was a nice meeting you at the Hotel Mitsui Kyoto last Saturday.

I had a lovely time at Ryoanji you guided me.

Even it was quite a short time there  I really enjoyed.

Especially the garden pond healed me a lot.

Thank you very much for your kind and efficient guide.

Also, it was so kind of you that introduced me to Tawaraya-san.

I am back to my real life now but am very much looking forward to visiting Kyoto and stay Tawaraya-san soon.

Staying Tawaraya-san was a dream to me but now it became a goal by your help, Thank you very much!

Take Care of yourself, Nagata-san!

Kind regards,

I hope you stay safe and healthy.

Thank you very much for your kind mail.

I am very happy to hear that you have enjoyed my guiding of Ryoanji.

As you know, this temple is famous for rock garden but my favorite is this pond.

Along with this temple, I would recommend Shodenji, Konchi-in and Chishaku-in.

Fortunately, you can take reservation at Tawaraya on your own from next time.

If you need my support, please feel free to let me know.

American guide book, Lonely planet, says it is flawless!

Please enjoy wonderful stay there.

I hope I will be able to guide you again in the near future!

Best regards,

Nobuaki Nagata

Nobusan,
How are you and family?
Remember in May 2019, you picked us all up- 5 adults in the family.
You drove all the way from Kyoto to pick us up from Osaka airport.
You gave us a very good 2-day tour of Kyoto👍👍👍. Thank you very much. We have fond memories😊.
How’s the covid situation in Kyoto? Hope it’s under control.
Over here in Singapore, we are under a heightened alert (not total lockdown), due to the new variants.
Fortunately, so far we have been able to ring fence clusters.
Our contact tracing is good and testing is targeted.
Hope to hear from you soon 😊

I hope you and your family stay safe and healthy! Thank you very much for your kind mail and having conversation over the phone. I am so happy to hear that you still remember me and enjoyed my guiding. Now Government issued the state of the emergency until the end of this month but the number of the infections doesn't decrease so much. It will extend half of month more. Fortunately, we, older than 65 years old started to be vaccinated since a couple of days ago. I am sure that situation is getting better now. I hope we will meet again in the near future. Please give my best regards to your husband and your family. Sincerely Regards, Nobuaki Nagata.

Letter for Nobusan

Dear Mr. Nagata,

In October 2017 you picked me up from the Prince Kyoto hotel and took me to a special Temple which was small and lovely.  You said it was a place you go to.  You suggested we sit and meditate for a while and you showed me how to hold my hands and fingers so they form a heart.  As we left a monk seated near the entrance complimented me on being a good mother.

Later you took me to some antique stores with lots of prints where I browsed for a while.

I don't know if you remember me at all, but I wanted to tell you I think about those moments at the Temple, the monk, and the meditating - a lot.  I hold my fingers that way when I meditate.  I recall the stillness and the serenity of that Temple.

I wish I had responded to the monk differently than I had.  I was so surprised by his compliment, and I responded in a defensive way rather than accepting it graciously.  Still, his comment has meaning for me.

I am writing to thank you, and to tell you how much meaning that visit to the Temple has to me. I appreciate your giving me those experiences.  I do not know the name of that Temple and I would like to know it if you remember to which Temple I am referring.

I hope you and your family are well.

Best wishes,

Thank you very much for your mail.

It has been about 4 years since you have used me for your tour.

I am so happy that you have still remembered me.

I am sorry but I don’t remember our tour perfectly.

I think we would have visited Shoden-ji temple and let you know how to do Zazen (silent meditation) by sitting on the open veranda.

Just in front of us, there would have been the small dry landscape garden and have seen the Mt. Hiei as a borrowed view.

This temple is also the favorite of David Bowie!

Thank you again for letting me know that you enjoyed my guide.

Kyoto has about 2,000 Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines.

I have other favorite places I want to show you.

I look forward to meeting you again in the future.

Please give my best regards to your family.

Sincerely Regards,

Nobuaki Nagata

Dear Mr. Nobuaki,

I hope this email reaches you healthy and well. My name is Nada. My husband, daughter, and I went on a tour around Kyoto with you back in January of 2017! We loved our time in Japan, and plan on returning in spring of 2022. We would like to be there during cherry blossom season. During our previous visit to Japan, we only visited Tokyo and Kyoto. Do you recommend any other cities for us to explore? Also, when would be the best time to visit in Spring of 2022? We can plan for 2- 2.5 weeks in Japan in total. How many days would you recommend at each city?  Finally, once our Japan travel itinerary is confirmed, I will be sure to reach out to schedule another tour with you. This time we will be returning with three daughters! Hope to hear from you soon.

Letter for Nobusan from AUS

Dear Nobu san,

A very good afternoon to you!

Greetings from Sydney where I am now just staying at home because of the coronavirus situation.

I have been thinking of you and your wife a lot.

So I just wanted to send you an email to find out how things are with you.

Were you able to go to Italy for your holiday earlier this year, just like you had planned?

I hope you were able to see the beautiful museums and art galleries before the country shut down.

How are things now in Japan?  In Kyoto?

How are you doing now?

I suppose that there are very few foreign tourists now visiting Kyoto with the current concerns around coronavirus.

I miss Japan very much and still recall the wonderful time my son and I had 2 years ago when you took us around to see the beautiful sakura (including in the secret garden of your friend).

I hope you and your family are all well and staying safe.

Perhaps some time to drink sake and relax a while.

I am really hoping and praying for an end to this COVID-19.

When we are able to travel safely again, I would very much want to visit Kyoto again to see you.

In the meantime, take care and stay safe.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Best regards,

*** * *** * *** * *** *

Thank you very much for your thoughtful mail.

How have you been?

The pandemic has impacted too strongly throughout the world.

I am pleased to hear you stay well and healthy.

My wife and I are doing quite well, thank you.

Fortunately, we were able to go to Italy and see the Last Judgement and the Last Supper!

Both of us loved Italy a lot, we believe this country itself is the world heritage site.

There are no foreign tourists at all except who live in Japan.

To see Japanese tourists is also very rare.

Some hotels close until next month.

Our prime minister declared the state of the emergency.

But is not so strict, we are allowed to commute in a jammed train.

I am afraid this pandemic will last longer than other countries.

We saw beautiful cherry blossoms without people.

I wanted to show you them!

The beautiful garden is a private garden, owner is in his 80’s.

It is closed this spring.

As for now, everyday is my off day until August.

But luckily, we are healthy.

I look forward to meeting you soon.

I hope you and your family stay well and healthy.

Sincerely Regards,

Nobuaki Nagata

Dear Nobuaki Nagata-san,

Thank you so much for your email and for taking us around Kyoto!
We appreciated how knowledgeable you are, which made the tour a truly enriching experience.
We also thank you for being patient with my filming and for explaining some things multiple times!
It was great to learn so much information.
I am attaching the photo that we took together, and a picture of Mercedes as a Geisha.  Great memories!
In case you did not get to write it down, the Samurai activity was the "Kyoto Samurai Experience."
Please do not hesitate to email if you want additional information about your trip to New York, Washington, and Boston - we have lived in all of those cities!
We know you are on an organized tour, but if you have time, we would love to see you when you are in New York - perhaps dinner!

“Best Tour Guide for Kyoto”

My sister from Sydney, Australia and I from San Francisco, California; visited Kyoto for a day trip.

Mr Nobuaki Nagata was our English speaking private tour guide.

We were extremely satisfied with his excellent services.

He planned our day according to our needs.

We were able to visit so many beautiful and popular spots in Kyoto,

do a bit of shopping for souvenirs and have a most delightful lunch in a place that he recommended that was just perfect for us.

He was not only very knowledgeable about the places we visited, but he also had some tips and advice to give us tourists about how to avoid the crowds, the best places to pose to take pictures (being an excellent photographer, he took our pictures as well), and he had his own very spacious, luxurious and comfortable SUV that he drove us around in so we had no worries about transportation.

I highly highly recommend Nobu-san to anyone looking for a fun, informative, relaxing and stress free visit to Kyoto.

“Best tour guide ever for Kyoto ”

The private guide Nobu in Kyoto was an absolute highlight of our time in Japan.

A family of 6 adults and first timers to the country meant a full day tour guide was the perfect option.

Our driver picked us up on time, had a full agenda planned, made fantastic lunch recommendations and great restaurant suggestions for our time in Kyoto.

Brilliant experience and worth every cent .

We had a fantastic time and saw so much more than what we would have done on our own .
